Jacob B.
Private tutor in Waterloo, Canada
Education
Graduate: Studying for a PhD in theoretical physics at Perimeter Institute. To date I have submitted a paper on "Fermion Doubling in Loop Quantum Gravity" - http://arxiv.org/abs/1507.01232. I have had broad research interests in the fields of Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Foundations, and Quantum Gravity. Perimeter Scholars International Master's program in physics at Perimeter Institute, Fall 2013- Spring 2014. My master's thesis was entitled "A Fresh Look at the Quantum World with Planck's Constant Going to Zero", building upon the results from http://arxiv.org/abs/1312.1772 Undergraduate: Dual major in pure math and physics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), 4.0 Major GPA, Fall 2010 - Spring 2013. During this time I published a paper, "Origin of Maximal Symmetry Breaking in Even PT-Symmetric Lattices" in Phys. Rev. A, http://arxiv.org/abs/1108.6083
Experience
Following Feynman, I am a strong believer that one does not truly understand something unless they are able to teach it. It is extremely rewarding to guide a student through the process of discovery. I wish to share my passion for science by tutoring. I've given a few talks for the public eye, here is a sample to get a sense of my enthusiasm for teaching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs3ZD8f3BsI&feature=youtu.be I've been tutoring in Canada over the last year, both through UniversityTutor.com and through OneClass. I was a high-rated tutor at the IUPUI Physics tutoring center during the final term of my undergraduate studies. I've participated in a series of teaching workshops and microteaching sessions at the University of Waterloo, culminating in a certificate of completion for the Fundamentals of University Teaching program. As a graduate student, I have been a TA for three graduate physics courses, as well as one undergraduate course. I also wrote lecture notes for a graduate course on general relativity.
